Welcome to kahla: CGM set-up guide

Important note : If you're using kahla with a CGM, you will need two apps: the LibreLink app just for scanning and the kahla app for tracking and interpreting all your data.

Step 1: Download the kahla app here. Our iPhone app is compatible with iPhones 7 or newer.

Step 2: Create an account if you haven't already and fill in the health questionnaire (it takes less than 5 minutes and these are the symptoms you'll track with the daily journal).

Step 3: Check your CGM packaging to see if it's a Libre 1, Libre 2 or Libre 3. Based on which model you have, download either the LibreLink 1 , the LibreLink 2 or the LibreLink 3 app.

Step 4: Create an account with Libre using the same email address you used for kahla.

Step 5: Connect Libre to kahla following these steps:

  • Tap the ☰ menu button on the top left of the LibreLink app
  • Scroll down and tap "Connected Apps"
  • Tap "Manage" next to LibreView
  • Tap "Connect to a Practice" and enter the following practice ID: kahlahealth (all lowercase, no spaces)
  • Tap "Next" and "Connect" to finish up the connection

Step 5: Install your CGM sensor following the instructions below (different for Libre 1 & 2 vs. Libre 3) - we promise, this is completely pain free 😉

How to apply your Libre 3 sensor:

*for best results, don’t apply the CGM directly over muscle; find the fattier part of the back of your upper arm and attach it there

How to apply your Libre 1 or Libre 2 sensor:

*for best results, don’t apply the CGM directly over muscle; find the fattier part of the back of your upper arm and attach it there

Step 6: Activate and scan your CGM sensor following the instructions below

  • once the sensor is attached to your arm, open the Libre app on your phone and scan your sensor to activate it (Libre 3 does NOT require manual scanning - data is automatically transmitted to your phone)
  • your sensor will take approximately 60 minutes to begin sending data to the kahla app; you will not be able to scan or see any data until the 60 minutes have passed
  • once activated, you can scan your sensor as often as you like, but it is important to scan your sensor 2-3 hours after eating to receive your meal score, and at least every 8 hours to prevent gaps in glucose data.
  • kahla currently supports the FreeStyle Libre CGM. Each sensor lasts for 14 days after which you will need to replace it with a new one.

Important note on Libre alarms for non-diabetic people: The LibreLink 2 and 3 apps have mandatory low and high glucose alarms. We recommend turning all these OFF by going to the ☰ menu in your Libre app -> tap Alarms and turn all alarms OFF.

The only alarm you won't be able to turn off is the Urgent Low Glucose alarm. This goes off if your blood sugar levels drop too low (but is not clinically significant as it mostly occurs during the night from sleeping on the sensor). To prevent this alarm from waking you up in the middle of the night, every night before you go to bed, either turn bluetooth OFF, or go to ☰ menu in your Libre app -> tap Alarms -> tap "Settings" on the "Enable Notifications" pop-up -> tap "Notification" -> turn Critical Alarms OFF

Within the first 48 hours of wearing the sensor, it's common to experience abnormally high/low readings. You can read more about low/high readings here.

Please note, the current version of the kahla app is still in beta which means you might experience errors, bugs and app crashes. We appreciate your patience while we work hard to improve your experience.
